In line with the company’s philosophy of continuous improvement to its products and production processes, the HSD Research & Development department has patented a new RIGHT ANGLE HEAD WITH AUTOMATIC WIRELESS DIRECTION CONTROL.
The Right Angle Head, known as a WiEnC (Wireless Encoder Control), is available in the blade and ER25 collet configurations and is particularly recommended for machining operations requiring maximum tool angle flexibility.
• Increased PRODUCTIVITY due to the automatic angle control, which reduces the number of positioning and tooling operations.
• Maximum RIGIDITY and POSITIONING ACCURACY of the system, guaranteed by the solid aluminium body machined from a single piece and the use of an encoder which uses a remote wireless control to position the variable angle tool.
• High machining FLEXIBILITY as a result of the automatic traversing, which allows the entire sequence of machining operations to be carried out in just one cycle, thus avoiding the need to use different dedicated right angle heads.
After the mechanical brake has been released, the automatic tool positioning is carried out by the joint actions of the electrospindle, the rotation of which traverses the axis, and the encoder, which monitors and fixes the exact position. The sequence of operations carried out on the machine is controlled remotely by wireless at high speed and without any intervention of the C-axis, the presence of which is no longer necessary for the operation.
The body of the right angle head is machined from Ergal slabs on 5-axis work centres and has a “fork” type structure on which the central element, also machined from the solid, rotates, resulting in an extremely rigid closed assembly.
Initially, the system is supplied with n°2 rechargeable long-life lithium batteries for continuous work cycles.
One single control unit can control a number of devices. This means that it is technically possible to fit multiple WiEnC right angle heads to a CNC machine. The wireless connection is rendered highly reliable by its wide signal range, appropriately shielded against external interference.
The high machining precision and optimised rotation speeds for the various machining operations are guaranteed through the use of ground gears with anti-wear coating in WC/C tungsten carbide, casehardened and ground shafts, high-precision bearings and precise assembly and testing procedures.
